ABOUT ST. ANDREW OUR HISTORY St. Andrew Lutheran Church was founded on February 24, 1963 when over 60 confirmed persons signed the charter requesting membership as a congregation of the Lutheran Church in America. This small group met at the Carnot School in Moon until the initial St. Andrew church was built at its current location, 987 Beaver Grade Road, and dedicated to the glory of God in 1966. The St. Andrew Day School was founded in 1972 and grew rapidly, prompting an addition to the church in 1976 to add classrooms and offices. St. Andrew has had six pastors in its 40 years. Our most recent pastor joined us in July 2003. Our previous pastor served St. Andrew for nearly 20 years before retiring at the end of 2002. Over 3000 people have worshipped and prayed at St. Andrew. Many children have gotten their first lessons at the Day School and heard their first words about Jesus in Sunday School. The church has been host to numerous baptisms, weddings, funerals, and celebrations. St. Andrew Lutheran Church, as it stands today, came about as the result of a tremendous renovation, restoration and addition completed in December of 1995, after almost one year of work by the congregation. The “new” building was dedicated on January 19, 1996. St. Andrew has gained almost 1000 new members since 1983 and has said good-bye to nearly the same number in that time. The faces of the congregation change constantly. We, as a body, continue to change to meet the needs of our people, while always remembering that “Jesus Christ is the same; yesterday, today and tomorrow.” |
